As shelf walls and niches become more popular – Dubai

As shelf walls and niches become more popular, more and more people are suffering the consequences of poor installation.

Keep this video in mind when you are having your nibs, niches and shelf walls installed ✍️

1️⃣ Your structural base (meaning the very foundation of your niche, nib or shelf wall) should be installed with an approx 10mm fall built into it.

Note that your tiles will also need fall, but no where near as much, or your shampoo bottles will slide off the niche. But if you were wondering, the tiles normally have a 3mm fall

If your niche does not have built in fall you are asking for a costly waterproofing failure as water will sit within the nice and eventually be a point of failure!

2️⃣ Another tip is to ask your carpenter and tiler to work together on assessing the tile layout so the niche, nibs and shelf walls can be built to land perfectly on a factory edge tile.

If you were wondering what a factory edge tile is, it’s the edge of an uncut tile like the niches, nibs and shelf walls shown in this video.

The reason for this is simply aesthetics, it looks much much better than having small cuts around your feature niche, nib or shelf walls ✨

Now you know! Happy renovating!
